DTI products : Cut Grade Certification

For Grading Laboratories

Through the use of our database information, DTI can provide diamond grading labs the scientific basis to establish new proportion grade parameters that are based on look/beauty of the diamond vs. predetermined proportion parameters. This philosophy that the "look" of a diamond should be the true measure of the cut performance will provide new proportions that will give cutters additional yield when applied to specific rough shapes.

DTI’s cut grade certification is the only cut grade system in existence that measures Brilliance (Light return), Fire (Colored Light), and Scintillation (Sparkle), as it truly occurs in reality. DTI provides more than just a number or grade, DTI provides a numerical representation of why a diamond is beautiful, ex Does a diamond have more sparkliness, or more fire.

In other words….

We describe what is unique about the look of the diamond,
something a consumer can see with his/her own eyes.

DTI provides certification for:

  • Individual cut diamonds.
  • Range of proportions of specified cut style.

Fancy Cut Grade:

  • Only system in existence that rates fancy cuts
  • Works for any shape, fancy, round, or modified round.
  • Rates the look with Beauty Index, no longer necessary to see fancy cuts to know if beautiful.

Note:
All DTI ratings and certifications assume good symmetry and polish and are based on averaged proportions.

DTI Uses

Beauty Component Rating™

DTI’s Beauty Component Rating rates the following components by emulating in the computer how they are seen in real life by the human eye:

  • Brilliance (Light return)
  • Fire (Colored light return)
  • Scintillation (Sparkliness)

Beauty Index Rating™

DTI’s Beauty Index Rating combines the three components found in the Beauty Component Rating brilliance fire and scintillation, into one numerical representation that rates the overall look or beauty of a diamond as seen by the human eye while gently rocking the diamond back and forth.
