  how technology works: Interpreting Results

Once the light beam data has been stored a series of mathematical computations are employed to emulate how each optical characteristic is seen by a human observer. These mathematical computations called metrics were devised using the knowledge gleaned from a detailed study of human visual physiology and study of the human eye/brain combination. These metrics are then reduced to three visual components called Brilliance, Fire, and Scintillation, that are then combined using a unique formula into one number which is our Cut Beauty Index Rating.

Most machines / instruments available today measure the light return from a diamond using only the face up view and from only one direction. DTI technology interprets its data from two viewing directions at a time, as the human eye brain does and translates this into one view as shown on the right.

Furthermore, DTI technology analyzes the diamond from every viewing Angle not just face up, while rocking the diamond back and forth from 0 to 90 degrees, as shown below.

When the metrics are properly employed there is no need to weight or manipulate the results in an attempt to emulate reality.

Diamond must be analyzed from all viewing angles.
